Raclette is the most famous and appreciated Savoyard dish for its flavors but also for its convivial side that we share with family or friends. This recipe is based on melted cheese, potatoes and cold cuts. Simply melt your piece of cheese in a raclette machine and cover the potatoes with slices of ham, sausage and other cold meats according to your taste and desires.
Tartiflette is a very well-known dish that we enjoy eating on winter evenings to share a real moment of greed. This recipe is presented in the form of a very rich and tasty gratin: a mix of smoked bacon, sliced potatoes, pieces of melted Reblochon cheese and a good pan of onions. The whole thing is of course topped with fresh cream and can be cooked directly in the oven or in the pan. Pair this exceptional dish with a glass of Savoy white wine!
The Savoyard fondue is a tasty cream is prepared with different cheeses (such as Beaufort, Gruyère de Savoie or Comté), but also with white wine and small pieces of garlic. Just dip a small piece of bread in this tasty mixture to delight your taste buds. Be careful because the one who drops his piece of bread gets a funny forfeit!
Crozets are pieces of pasta made from buckwheat flour. Often eaten with pormoniers or white wine diots sausages. These square shaped pastas can even replace potatoes in tartiflette for an even more generous result. We call this dish “Croziflette”.
Gateau de Savoie is a very light sponge cake made in a Kugelhopf shape mould. This is the perfect after-ski tea time cake, most of the time served with fruit, jame or crème Anglaise. For the record, its origin goes way back to the 14th Century in Chambéry, when the Count Amadeus VI of Savoy asked his patry chef to make a cake as light as a feather!
