I had the chance this summer to spend a few days in the South of Corsica. During this vacation, I visited Bonifacio. It was the first time I went to the island of Beauty, what a wonder! ! I came back with beautiful images in my head, where mountains, cliffs and turquoise water are mixed… As you walk through the city, you will quickly become aware of the unique and lively atmosphere that reigns in the narrow and charming streets of Bonifacio.
In this post, I take you to visit Bonifacio and give you some ideas to see and do. No time to get bored, the city and its surroundings offer plenty to do!
Bonifacio is this city in the South of Corsica built on the side of cliffs of which you have certainly already seen pictures… Good news, it is as beautiful in real life as on the postcards, I promise!
I enjoyed strolling in the old town, sometimes walking through its streets, sometimes admiring the view on the sea and the cliffs. The location of Bonifacio is really incredible and offers a panoramic view on the surroundings.
The boat ride is a classic among the activities offered to tourists. It is a boat trip that is very enjoyable. The classic boat trip takes you to see caves carved in the cliffs, the city of Bonifacio from the sea, it’s just impressive! I really enjoyed this trip, and I was able to take some great pictures!
The port of Bonifacio is located in the lower part of the city. It offers a beautiful view of the citadel and the Upper Town in general. The atmosphere is that of a seaside town: bars, restaurants and their mussels and French fries menus follow one another, as well as proposals for boat excursions. I had walked there with pleasure and there are even some good addresses!
It is for me a rather unusual place: it is a staircase of 187 steps cut directly in the rock, with an inclination of about 45 degrees! And as the steps are of different heights, it is better to be a little concentrated, at least for the descent. That being said, it’s still a good way to go. I still advise you to be well equipped in basket to climb these stairs.
I am a rider and I can hardly resist the call of a horseback ride to discover a region! Bonifacio was no exception to the rule, and here I am for a 2-hour horseback ride.
The walk passes by the maquis then by the gulf of Santa Manza. What beautiful landscapes! Add to that a little gallop in the scrub, and here I am the happiest person in the world!
I went by boat from Bonifacio to the archipelago of the Lavezzi islands, for a land and sea discovery. It was a heavenly place! Classified as a natural reserve, the landscape is spectacular and worthy of the most beautiful postcards. The archipelago of the Lavezzi islands is only 10 km south of Bonifacio.
I discovered sumptuous beaches and creeks with turquoise water, bordered by huge granite blocks.
You have the choice between 4 types of boat trips to visit the Lavezzi islands, starting from Bonifacio:
- Take a sea shuttle
- Take a day cruise
- Take a private VIP cruise by renting a boat with skipper
- Renting a boat, an excellent solution if you have the license!
If you want to walk around the island Lavezzi, it normally takes 1 hour. But you will take much more time with all the obligatory photo stops!
During my vacations, I had stayed at the Hotel U Capu Biancu. It is a haven of peace! In the heart of the all-powerful maquis, U Capu Biancu is a house invented by the sea, travels and the wind. Nestled in a preserved and protected site, it is accessible by road and by sea. I enjoyed the infinity pool facing the sea and the beaches below. . It is a setting in this exceptional environment. The concept of the hotel: a life without artifice, luxury in the natural.
