In France, I can see that we are lucky to be able to admire magnificent waterfalls! I enjoy every time I discover one! Our regions are full of waterfalls, each one more sublime than the other.
I will make you discover my 5 favorite waterfalls.
It is in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Cevennes, in Lozere, that the Rûnes waterfalls are located. 70 meters high, they benefit from a flow more than important, since it is three times superior to the average of the French rivers! These waterfalls are the most beautiful of the Rûnes, a tributary of the Tarn whose source is in the Mont Lozère, where many other rivers are born, including the Tarn itself! ! Note that a marked path allows to go there from the hamlet of Rûnes. It was a great experience for me to discover these waterfalls.
Located in Caylus, in the department of Tarn et Garonne, this waterfall is the most spectacular waterfall of the Loup gorges, although its sisters of the Grande Marmite and the Demoiselles are also worth a look. The waterfall of the Petrifying ones owes its name to its waters very charged in carbonates which have the characteristic to cover with a limestone gangue the leaves and other branches of trees which are plunged there. The waterfall is on the side of the road. There is a very small parking lot about 100 meters away. It is also possible to go up above the waterfall to see other successions of small waterfalls.
At the foot of one of the most beautiful villages in France, the river Cèze has shaped a limestone plateau to give birth to the Sautadet waterfalls. It is the slow work of erosion of the Cèze which gave birth to these cavities called “Marmites de géants”. Be careful, the eddies strictly forbid swimming, which is however authorized downstream from the site.
The landscape is magnificent, I really enjoyed discovering these waterfalls.
Unique in Normandy, the great waterfall is also the largest in the West! Its 25 meters’ waterfall impresses by its flow and its remarkable rocky setting. In May-June, the flowering of the rhododendrons adds to the charm of the place. There is an exceptional fauna and flora which transforms the place into a place of quietude… I recommend this place because for me it is a magic place!
In the heart of the lakes region, the Hérisson river takes its source at Saut Girard. This torrent, formed by the waters of the lakes of Bonlieu and Ilay, follows a course of 3.7 km for a difference in altitude of 805 meters and offers no less than 31 jumps and 7 waterfalls. At the beginning of the trail, the waterfall house provides information on the economy that was linked to the waterfall and on the fauna and flora of the site. There is also a terminal that allows you to load a free augmented reality application that allows you to see the Jacquand mill being rebuilt on its original site, and to follow the circuit of the water through the millstones.
