This summer, I was away for a weekend with my family in Monaco. Nicknamed the Rock, Monaco is an incredible place not far from Nice.
Monaco is a small independent city-state on the French Mediterranean coast known for its high-end casinos, its yacht-filled marina and its prestigious Formula 1 Grand Prix that takes place in the streets of Monaco once a year.
In this post, I will show you the must-sees in Monaco.
First, I went straight to the Rock to contemplate the view. The Rock is the oldest part of the city which was founded in the 13th century by the famous Grimaldi dynasty, which still rules the principality today. This Monegasque district culminates at 60 meters above the sea.
We stayed more than 3 hours in the beautiful Oceanographic Museum. It’s amazing to see these immense aquariums where sharks, sea turtles and many of the Mediterranean fishes evolve. I was particularly impressed by the hudge skeletons of whales and dolphins, as well as fossils and models.
I was able to contemplate the Palace. It’s a must-see in Monaco. Since the 13th century, it has been the main residence of the Grimaldi family, whose most famous members are Prince of Monaco Albert II, his wife Charlene of Monaco and their twins Jacques & Gabriella.
Built on the side of a cliff, the exotic garden overlooks the Principality of Monaco. Along the way, you can enjoy superb panoramic views of the Rock and the city while discovering hundreds of different species of cacti. A restful interlude.
I recommend you to go through the Fontvieille district. Located at the foot of the rock, you can reach it in 15 minutes on foot from the oceanographic museum.
This neighborhood was built directly on the sea, you can see the marina, the path of sculptures, and the Princess Grace Rose Garden which is a landscape park that houses over 300 varieties of roses.
This is my favorite. With its ponds filled with Koi carp and its typical Japanese pavilions, the garden is a real little haven of peace, in total contrast with the buildings that surround it.
It’s a prestigious Belle Epoque style casino located in the Monte-Carlo district. I didn’t go inside, but from the outside alone, it’s beautiful to take a picture of.
This hotel offers an unparalleled experience combining, in the same place, the magic of a mythical hotel with exceptional activities: starred restaurants, Patio des Joailliers, Opéra Garnier, Casino de Monte-Carlo or Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo… The great luxury of a palace… It was for me unforgettable.
