Golf, although not the most accessible sport, has developed widely in France: the first golf course was founded in Pau (frequented by many Englishmen, of course), in 1856. Currently, there are more than 500 golf courses throughout France… for lovers of the green and memorable courses, here are the 5 most beautiful golf courses in France that I have tried:
Designed by this golfing legend, the Pont Royal course located in Mallemort in the south of France, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, is a tourist and sporting gateway to Provence. Beautifully maintained, it offers a real sporting challenge to players of all levels thanks to its vast and numerous tee boxes and the variety of shots to play.
The Ballesteros course, completed by the “La Durance” training center, includes 6 holes, a practice range, 3 approach greens and by the “Pitch&Putt” dedicated to the small game including 5 greens on a surface of 1,5 hectares. This domain is simply incredible! I really enjoyed playing golf with my friends.
Nestled among olive groves, low stone walls and the surrounding Alpilles, the Domaine de Manville golf course, the first French golf course to be awarded the Ecocert label, offers us a real stroll in a natural environment, where ducks, wild geese and protected frogs live together. For me, it’s just a magical place!
In addition to being an exceptional golf course, it’s located in a 5 star hotel, the Domaine de Manville.
Terre Blanche has just been ranked 10th in the very first world ranking of the 100 best golf resorts by GOLF WORLD (UK). This golf resort is composed of 36 holes:
This 18-hole, 6,616-meter course offers a magnificent challenge to ambitious golfers. The bunkers, greens, and flag positions allow players to experience the true playing conditions of a championship course. It rewards the best players for their accuracy and length. The water hazards are numerous and spectacular.
Located on a hillside, facing the perched villages of the Pays de Fayence, Le Riou is a technical 18-hole golf course of 6005 meters that requires strategy and precision. This course is reserved for Club members, their guests and hotel guests.
The Golf of Sperone is a course in total synergy with Corsica. The course has been designed to allow players to discover the relief so typical of the extreme south of Corsica. All the local species have been maintained, fragrant scrub and majestic cliffs… and of course the sea… Lovers of golf, nature and the sea, you will be well!
This golf course is located in the middle of the Fontainebleau forest, 800 meters from the city, on the former imperial hunting grounds. Its fairways, relatively narrow, are lined with trees of various species, pines, but also birches, cherry trees, beech trees and hundred-year-old oaks. They are very well defended by 103 fine sand bunkers, but also by thick coppices of heather, lilac, ferns and broom, which make the charm and the difficulty and compose, according to the seasons, a symphony of colors and smells.
